I sit on the 737, awaiting Inevitable Doom. Every time I board a plane, I prepare myself for death. This is not just a superstitious disposition that comes and goes. My fear of flying is an embodied ordeal that starts days before I board, lasts the entire journey, and continues hours after I land. Given my present ability to write this, I have yet to be in a devastating airplane accident, but the thought never ceases (and even writing this makes me nervous). …
