Obwohl biologische und soziokulturelle Unterschiede im Vergleich zu Männern belegt sind und sich Pathophysiologie, Prävalenz und Verlauf von vielen Herz-Kreislauf-Erkrankungen unterscheiden, fehlt für Frauen ausreichende Evidenz für die meisten Vorgehensweisen. Frauen sind trotz der Notwendigkeit einer geschlechtersensiblen, individualisierten Medizin in kardiovaskulären Studien unterrepräsentiert. Zudem gibt es frauenspezifische Faktoren, die das kardiovaskuläre Risiko in verschiedenen Lebensphasen modulieren. Es ist deshalb wichtig, die Risikostratifizierung und Betreuung prä- und postmenopausal anzupassen. Frauenspezifische Aspekte im Kontext kardiovaskulärer Erkrankungen sollten in Forschung, Leitlinien, Aus- und Weiterbildung sowie in der gesundheitlichen Aufklärung der Bevölkerung berücksichtigt werden.
