Bauchschmerzen gehören zum führenden Symptom zahlreicher Erkrankungen des Gastrointestinaltrakts. Aber auch einige extraintestinale Krankheitsbilder und Stoffwechselerkrankungen können sich mit dem Symptom Bauchschmerzen präsentieren. Stärkste Bauchschmerzen gehören zum Symptomenkomplex des akuten Abdomens. Aufgrund der Anamnese der Schmerzen und des Schmerzcharakters kann bereits oft eine richtige Zuordnung zu bestimmten Krankheitsbildern erfolgen. Wichtig in der Zuordnung des Symptoms Bauchschmerzen zu einem Krankheitsbild sind natürlich weitere Symptome, wie Fieber, Durchfall, Stuhlverhalt, Erbrechen und der klinische Untersuchungsbefund. Es lässt sich die Diagnose aber allein aufgrund der Anamnese, des Schmerzcharakters und der körperlichen Untersuchung nicht immer stellen. Daher sind je nach Verdachtsdiagnose und möglicher Differenzialdiagnosen zusätzlich bildgebende Verfahren und Laborparameter erforderlich.
