Development and Application of an Attribute-Based Taxonomy on the Benefits of Oral Anticoagulant Switching in Atrial Fibrillation: A Delphi Study

Oral anticoagulants (OACs) are commonly prescribed to prevent stroke in atrial fibrillation (AF), but their attributes (e.g., efficacy, safety, cost, ease of administration, and interactions) vary, leading to switching between them [ 1 – 5 ].

Efficacy and safety of direct oral anticoagulants in patients with atrial fibrillation combined with chronic kidney disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Published studies have yielded inconsistent findings regarding the effectiveness and safety of DOACs in patients with AF and CKD. Patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) are susceptible to stroke or thromboembolic events due to increased heart …

Trends in Oral Anticoagulant Use and Individual Expenditures Across the United States from 2014 to 2020

Vitamin K antagonists (VKA) have served as the primary oral anticoagulant (OAC) for the prevention and treatment of thromboembolism since 1954 [ 1 ]. Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) provide a safer and more convenient alternative to VKAs, albeit …

Outcomes of venous thromboembolism in patients with inherited thrombophilia treated with direct oral anticoagulants: insights from the RIETE registry

While direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are frequently used to treat venous thromboembolism (VTE), the outcomes of patients with inherited thrombophilia (IT) receiving DOACs for VTE remain understudied. We used data from the international RIETE …

Retrospective, multicenter analysis of the safety and effectiveness of direct oral anticoagulants for the treatment of venous thromboembolism in obesity

The prevalence of obesity has increased in the United States from 30.5% of the population in 1999–2000 to 42.4% in 2017–2018 [ 1 ]. Obesity more than doubles the risk of developing venous thromboembolism (VTE) [ 2 – 5 ]. In 2018, it was estimated …

Benefit and risk of oral anticoagulant initiation strategies in patients with atrial fibrillation and cancer: a target trial emulation using the SEER-Medicare database

Oral anticoagulants (OACs) are recommended for patients with atrial fibrillation (AFib) having CHA2DS2-VASc score ≥ 2. However, the benefits of OAC initiation in patients with AFib and cancer at different levels of CHA2DS2-VASc is unknown. We …

European expert consensus recommendations on the primary care use of direct oral anticoagulants in patients with venous thromboembolism

Venous thromboembolism (VTE), which includes deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), refers to the formation of a clot which fully or partially obstructs blood flow [ 1 ]. VTE is the third most common cause of vascular mortality …

The incidence of major bleeding in adult patients with urogenital and gynecological cancer being treated with direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs): a systematic review

Cancer-associated venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common complication and a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in cancer patients [ 1 ]. Patients with cancer have more than a 4-to-6-fold risk of VTE compared to the general population [ 2 ] …
