Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) of the second portion of the duodenum represent a rare clinical entity [1]. This tumor location is technically challenging because of its proximity to the pancreas and the biliary/pancreatic ducts with the ampulla [2]. GISTs arising from the major papilla have only been described in 12 case reports since 2004 [3] and most authors advocate performing a pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) for such lesions [4]. Here, we provide a case report of a local resection and reconstruction for an ampullary GIST as well as a review of the literature. …
