Current American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging guidelines for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) define T2 tumors as “solitary tumors with intrahepatic vascular invasion” or “multifocal tumors with or without vascular invasion”, classifying T2N0 disease as stage II.
1 Conflicting reports in the literature exist with regard to the prognosis of multifocal tumors, with some supporting current staging algorithms: however, a number of validated scoring systems for ICC list multifocality as an independent risk factor for poor survival.
