Despite advances in understanding the genetics of type 2 diabetes (T2D), the benefits of precision medicine—better disease risk prediction and individually tailored prevention or treatment—remain aspirational. While patients have reported that genetic risk information would motivate preventive health behavior change,
1, 2 this has not been borne out in short-term studies of genetic risk counseling.
3, 4 The adoption of risk-modifying behaviors may be delayed as patients accumulate T2D risk factors and learn behavior change skills.
