Zusammenfassung

Trotz der schlechten Evidenzlage für viele dieser Methoden und ihren potentiellen Risiken (für das Kind und ökonomisch für die gesamte Familie) werden dem Behandlerteam im Praxisalltag viele Familien begegnen, die komplementäre Therapiemethoden bei ihren Kindern einsetzen oder einsetzen möchten. Diesem Wunsch sollte respektvoll begegnet werden. Es gilt - basierend auf der verfügbaren Evidenz - gemeinsam mit den Eltern möglichen Schaden und Nutzen der Behandlungsmethode für das Kind abzuwägen. Die Vorstellungen darüber, was unter komplementären und alternativen Behandlungsmethoden zu verstehen ist, gehen mitunter weit auseinander. Das Kapitel definiert die wichtigsten Therapieformen, erklärt Unterschiede und weist auf potenzielle Risikofaktoren hin.
