Zusammenfassung

Obwohl der essentielle Tremor zu funktionellen Einschränkungen und sozialer Isolation führt, ist er häufig unter- oder fehldiagnostiziert. Bei bislang fehlendem klassischen Hochrisikogen stellt sich zunehmend heraus, dass der essentielle Tremor zum Formenkreis neurodegenerativer Erkrankungen gehört. Klinisch können neben dem Tremor auch nicht motorische Symptome wie neuropsychologische Defizite auftreten. Die medikamentöse Therapie ist häufig unbefriedigend. Bei ausgeprägter Symptomatik ist die tiefe Hirnstimulation eine sichere und zugelassene Therapieoption.
