In this retrospective study, Dr. Van Vugt et al.
1 assessed the association between skeletal muscle depletion and postoperative complications for patients undergoing cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS-HIPEC). The study report describes the potential unfavorable effect of skeletal muscle depletion on the increased risk of severe postoperative complications. Postoperative complications after CRS-HIPEC are particularly important due to the increased mortality and recurrence rate for these patients.
