Use of new metal alloys such as cobalt chromium or platinum chromium has enabled stents to have thinner struts. Thinner struts, in turn, improved the deliverability and conformability. In addition, to improve the flexibility, the numbers of fixed links between the stent cells were also reduced. These design differences in stent platforms resulted in decreased longitudinal stent integrity. Decreased longitudinal axial strength led to a newly described complication called longitudinal stent compression or the concertina effect [
