Metaplastic breast cancer (MBC) is a rare histologic entity that consists of at least two distinct types of cells, most commonly containing both mesenchymal and epithelial components.
1 Patients with MBC have been shown to have worse overall survival (OS) than patients with invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC), suggesting that this is a more biologically aggressive entity.
2 Due to its rarity, there are limited data to guide management for patients with MBC. Treatment for MBC typically follows paradigms used for patients with IDC. National practice patterns regarding radiation therapy (RT) use, chemotherapy use, and the impact of RT on OS, specifically among MBC patients, have not been well elucidated. …
