Das langsame Wachstum von Mykobakterien

Mögliche Ursachen und Bedeutung für die Pathogenität

Zusammenfassung

Die Gattung Mycobacterium weist als charakteristische Eigenschaft lange sowie bei verschiedenen Spezies der Gattung stark voneinander abweichende Generationszeiten auf. Alle hochpathogenen Spezies wie der Tuberkuloseerreger M. tuberculosis oder der Erreger der Lepra M. leprae zählen zu den langsam wachsenden Mykobakterien, während die apathogenen und opportunistischen Mykobakterien zu den schnell wachsenden Arten gehören. Dies legt die Frage nach einem möglichen kausalen Zusammenhang zwischen Wachstumsrate und Virulenz nahe. Wir erörtern die möglichen Ursachen des ungewöhnlich langsamen und innerhalb der Gattung variablen Wachstums und diskutieren den aktuellen Kenntnisstand zur möglichen Bedeutung der Wachstumsgeschwindigkeit für die mykobakterielle Pathogenität.
