There are several radiotracers currently available for detecting tumors of the sympathetic nervous system. [123I]-meta-iodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) is commonly used with planar imaging and single photon emission computerised tomography (SPECT) and depicts presynaptic noradrenalin reuptake. Alternatively, the positron emitting radiopharmaceutical [11C]-meta-hydroxyephedrine (mHED) may be used together with positron emission tomography (PET) to measure the same molecular process; the superior imaging characteristics may allow to detect tumours with a higher sensitivity compared to MIBG-SPECT [1]. …
