Luosujärvi et al. [
1] reported on joint symptoms in a small population that was exposed to high levels of moisture in a building. Microbes, specifically mold, were observed growing under the flooring materials and were suggested as a potential cause for the observed increased incidence in joint pain and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). What is not mentioned as a factor is endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide), which is a component of gram-negative bacteria and a common contaminate in moisture damaged buildings [
2]. Endotoxin has been suggested to be a causative agent of joint inflammation [
3] and may be one of the causes of RA observed in this study. …
