In September 2021, a task force of kidney experts recommended immediate implementation of a new eGFR formula without a race term to replace the previous race-based CKD-EPI formula [
1]. This change resulted in a slight decrease in eGFR for Black patients and a slight increase in eGFR for non-Black patients [
2]. The effect of the new eGFR formula on racial disparities in CKD care has been studied in relation to progression to dialysis, eligibility for kidney transplant, and accuracy of eGFR itself [
2‐
4], but existing studies have not assessed its impact on the timeliness of CKD patients’ first nephrology clinic visit, a factor which has been shown to be strongly associated with slowed progression and reduced costs of CKD [
