Torreset al. start off our special feature on antimicrobial resistance with a response to a piece by White & Hughes stressing the importance of a One Health approach to antimicrobial resistance. Ogawaet al. summarize the final synthesis discussion that took place at the Forum on Microbial Threats of the US National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine workshop in June 2017. Durso & Cook explore and identify the language and vocabulary of antibiotic resistance in the context of supporting strategic short- and long-term problem solving in a One Health context. Barguiguaet al. studied E. coli in Morocco and found that wild aquatic birds can be reservoirs of antibiotic resistance genes and spread them over long distances through migration. Bonardiet al. found antimicrobial resistant Salmonella in wild boars in Northern Italy. In Bangladesh, Ferdouset al. antimicrobial residues in chicken and fish, among which amoxicillin was most prevalent. In a study by Ergieet al., the occurrence of three groups of antimicrobials was investigated in the sediments of Awash River Basin, Ethiopia. …
