We commend Zaninotto et al. [
1] for their follow-up study on laparoscopic repair of large type III hiatal hernias. Their study showed that the laparoscopic approach for repair of type III hiatal hernias (mixed sliding and paraesophageal) can be performed with excellent symptomatic short-term results; however, midterm objective radiologic/endoscopic evaluation reveals a high recurrence rate. Furthermore, their results support the idea that the use of mesh is associated with a lower recurrence rate after surgery. …
