A 42-year-old woman developed respiratory myopathy during treatment with methylprednisolone. The woman, who had a history of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis, received IV infusion of methylprednisolone 3g following a spinal cord relapse. After 4 days of the infusion, she experienced breathlessness on exertion even while talking. Over the next 2 weeks, her symptoms worsened. Pulmonary function tests showed a restrictive pattern along with low muscle pressures. The tests were suggestive of respiratory myopathy.
