Zusammenfassung

Die Prävalenz einer signifikanten Mitralklappeninsuffizienz nimmt jenseits des 65. Lebensjahres zu und beträgt bei 75-Jährigen etwa 10 %. Primäre Formen zeigen organische Veränderungen, sekundäre Formen entstehen durch symmetrische (dilatative Kardiomyopathie) oder durch asymmetrische (postinfarktbedingte) Überdehnungen des Halteapparates. Die morphologische und funktionelle Diagnostik erfolgt hauptsächlich durch standardisierte Techniken der Echokardiografie.
