In his landmark publication “The structure of scientific revolutions” Harvard Philosopher Thomas Kuhn challenged the traditional view of science as the progressive accumulation of knowledge, and affirmed the concept of “progress through revolutions”. In this framework, the reiteration of anomalies within a given conceptual network triggers a crisis whereby the underlying assumptions of the field are reexamined and a new paradigm is established.
