Professor Picard Marceau is undoubtedly associated with the biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch procedure (commonly referred to as “duodenal switch”). He developed it in Canada with the help of his long-time partner and colleague, Dr. Simon Biron during the late 1980s after the original contribution of Nicola Scopinaro. As a matter of fact, Dr. Marceau was the first, in 1993, to publish in Obesity Surgery the modified (sleeve) gastrectomy performed in conjunction with the malabsorptive component (although Dr. Douglas Hess, in the USA, started to use this technique around the same period). …
