Adding a proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) or substituting non-selective non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (nsNSAIDs) with selective cyclo-oxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors appears to reduce the risk of serious gastrointestinal (GI) adverse drug reactions (ADRs) in elderly patients requiring both anti-inflammatories and anticoagulants, according to findings published in Drug Safety.
