We greatly appreciate the positive appraisal of our paper by Prof. Kingsnorth [
1]. The attached figure regarding abdominal wall compliance in 87 patients after incisional hernia repair performed with commercially available heavy or light meshes requires particular attention. The light mesh used in the trial was supposed to improve abdominal wall mechanics in terms of transverse and longitudinal tension forces. However, such a theoretical assumption is not supported by the data presented, which show no difference between abdominal compliance in the two groups of meshes and poses a problem for the use of experimental animal models because the results appear not to be reproducible in humans [
