The thoracic duct (TD) is the main lymphatic vessel in the body. With respect to the quality of lymph node (LN) dissection, TD resection is effective for removing TDLNs that lie within the adipose tissue surrounding the TD and are located between the thoracic esophagus and the descending aorta. The incidence of TDLN metastasis is reported to be approximately 2–11%,
1 and some esophageal cancer patients have TDLN recurrence after radical esophagectomy. However, the impact of TD resection on prognosis remains unclear. The negative effects of TD resection on circulatory dynamics and nutritional status are a concern, buth few studies have discussed these issues.
