The clinical importance of thyroid nodules lies primarily in the possibility of thyroid cancers for consideration of thyroidectomy, with ultrasonography (US) being a mainstay of assessment.
1 Shape is one of the most important features in the diagnosis of malignant nodules, and, to date, is usually described qualitatively to determine whether the taller-than-wide (TTW)
2 is present. However, only those nodules that appear markedly different can be easily differentiated at first interpretation with poor interobserver and intraobserver agreements.
