Significant efforts have been made to identify cohorts of women with involved sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) with low risk of non-SLN involvement in an attempt to avoid unnecessary axillary lymphadenectomy (ALND). The ACOSOGZ0011 represented a milestone in the management of early breast cancer (cT1–2) with limited lymph node (LN) involvement (1–2 LNs+).
1 In this study, no survival [local recurrence, disease-free survival, and overall survival (OS)] difference was found between patients undergoing sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) and those undergoing ALND.
