Abstract
Evolution of general surgery into subspecialities helps to gain excellence in patient care, academics, and research. Endocrine surgery is comparatively a newer subspeciality in India as compared with other surgical subspecialties. Approximately three decades back, the first academic department was started in our country, and even after three decades there are only five academic departments/units providing structured and accredited training. The SGPGIMS experience has been an integral part of the journey of building and establishing endocrine surgery in India. In this article, we summarize the development of endocrine surgery and essential elements required to build endocrine surgery of tomorrow.
