Venous thromboembolism (VTE) represents one of the most important causes of maternal morbidity and mortality in developed countries, with an incidence of 0.5–2.2 per 1000 pregnancies [
1]. Women with previous deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) who become pregnant have an increased risk of VTE recurrence and of adverse pregnancy outcome [
