Foreword to the special issue on Environmental Ergonomics

This special issue of the European Journal of Applied Physiology contains a selection of presentations made at the 2007 International Conference on Environmental Ergonomics in Piran, Slovenia (Mekjavic et al. 2007; Fig. 1). This was the 12th meeting, which is normally held every 2 years. The brief description of the meetings and research field per se, provided below, intentionally includes excerpts from the forewords written by the organisers of past meetings. In this manner we wish to pay tribute to our colleagues who have been instrumental in the development of Environmental Ergonomics. The meeting was held under the patronage of Dr. Janez Potočnik, European Commissioner for Science and Research.
