This is a very impressive multi-authored book covering the basic principles underlying the development of inflammo-immunological reactions and their aetiology and the actions of the wide range of pharmacological agents that are employed in treating inflammatory and autoimmune disease. With 87 authors, many known specialists in their field (including those of the editors), this book is outstanding in being a most readable account of the complexities of immune responses to insult, inflictions and cancer, liberally illustrated with excellent concept diagrams describing the inter-cellular cytokine-regulated components of immuno-inflammatory reactions. Most helpfully, the Appendices contain details of the properties and clinical uses of currently available biological therapies; chemical structures, pharmacokinetics and contraindications of the NSAIDs together with brief outlines of their modes of action and adverse effects; and brief details of the clinical pharmacology of disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs). …
