This classic textbook in ophthalmology has been updated! Once again, Saul Merin has provided a wonderful compilation of reports on all topics of eye disorders related to genetic failures in man. The title promises data on diagnosis and management and accomplishes its task. Three chapters give an overview of some basic aspects of genetics, followed by 20 chapters dealing with genetic eye disorders by site of manifestation. Textbooks often suffer from the rapid development of knowledge, and Merin’s book is not an exception. In many instances, historical data on gene identification remain the same as in the previous publication. This makes the text not only hard to read, but also lengthy. This is not the major problem. This textbook is obviously an ophthalmological textbook presenting genetic data. The book has been updated but not revised. The data are given from an ophthalmologist’s view, ignoring genetic necessities in arranging chapters. …
