The recent publication “Endovascular Stenting in Superior Vena Cava Syndrome: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis” by Aung and colleagues [
1] addresses a fundamental question in interventional radiology suites throughout the world—do stents work in patients with superior vena cava (SVC) stenoses that are severe enough to cause clinical symptoms? This is a question that has been addressed in multiple studies over the past nearly 30 years, and recently by a literature review on the topic [
2]. The study by Aung et al. included 54 studies published starting in 1993 that included a total of 2249 patients. By using strict methodology used for meta-analyses, the authors definitively answered this question in the affirmative. …
