Iodized oil CT-guided radiofrequency ablation for hepatocellular carcinoma within Milan criteria

In the latest issue of Hepatology International, Wu et al. retrospectively compared the outcomes of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) conforming to the Milan criteria after iodized oil computed tomography (IoCT)-guided and ultrasound (US)-guided radiofrequency ablation (RFA) [
1]. The IoCT and US arms included 184 and 301 HCC patients with unbalanced clinical features, respectively. Wu and colleagues invited propensity score matching to generate comparability, finding that the IoCT arm had a lower local tumor progression rate and extended recurrence-free survival (RFS) than the US arm.
