It is a great pleasure and honor to write this laudation for Prof. Alexander Berghaus, an internationally renowned educator, innovative scientist, gifted surgeon, respected leader, and friend. I first met Prof. Berghaus in June 2004 and have had the privilege of sharing the podium with him on multiple occasions. Alexander Berghaus was born on 9 January 1952 in Leverkusen, Germany. He spent most of his professional life at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg and then at the University of Munich and the Ludwig Maximillian University. He is ending a long and storied academic career, having influenced many students and younger surgeons from around the world. …
