The best medical decisions are made after accumulating the appropriate clinical data. This begins with the basic historical facts, including any past medical history that might be pertinent to the current condition. It is followed by a detailed physical examination, supplemented by appropriate laboratory and imaging procedures. At the conclusion of these investigations, a proper differential diagnosis is put forth. By choosing among the results of all of these evaluations, the correct diagnosis may be derived. …
