The acceptance of complementary medicine (CM) by patients suffering from rheumatological conditions is phenomenal [
1]. Back pain is the number one condition for which patients seek care by CM providers. About 30% of back pain sufferers visit CM practitioners, especially chiropractors [
2]. Many report to be satisfied with their services. Proponents of CM may therefore seem justified in insisting that “alternative medicine should be available to all on the NHS...Patients appear to reduce their usage of other healthcare services” [
