The function of brown fat in metabolic syndrome (MetS) has been followed with great interest in recent years. Positive regulatory domain containing 16 (PRDM16) has been shown to control a bidirectional cell fate switch between skeletal myoblasts and brown adipocytes [
1]. We hypothesized that genetic variants within the
PRDM16 gene may be associated with MetS. At present, only one study so far has reported a genetic association between
PPRDM16 and MetS [
