Because of the relatively narrow therapeutic range for digoxin, medications altering digoxin bioavailability or clearance may predispose the patient to intoxication. Although drug-drug interactions between the macrolide antibacterials (e.g. erythromycin and clarithromycin) and digoxin have been described previously,[1] there have been no published descriptions of drug-drug interactions occurring with digoxin and the azilide antibacterial azithromycin. We report a case of digoxin intoxication occurring in a young patient who was concurrently receiving digoxin and azithromycin. …
