In this issue of the
Journal, Jones
et al. 1 present a comparative effectiveness trial showing no difference in clinically relevant outcomes between sevoflurane and isoflurane when used for anesthetic maintenance during cardiac surgery. Specifically, the authors showed that sevoflurane is non-inferior to isoflurane based on a primary outcome composite measure of prolonged intensive care unit (ICU) length of stay (LOS) and all-cause 30-day mortality. Furthermore, the authors found that sevoflurane is not superior to isoflurane on any other clinically important outcome. …
