Obesity has been increasingly recognized as a risk factor for gastrointestinal diseases including Barrett’s, esophageal cancer and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease [

3]. Recent American College of Gastroenterology Guidelines for colorectal cancer (CRC) screening recommend that initiation of screening at an earlier age may be beneficial and cost-effective in obese patients [
4]. A meta-analysis of six studies estimated a 3% increase (95% confidence interval [CI] 2–4) in CRC risk per one unit increase in body-mass index (BMI) [
5]. The risk of CRC for obese patients compared with that for non-obese patients is increased by 1.5–2.8 folds, and is particularly associated with high-risk adenomas [
