The editor of the book, Dr. Simopoulos, who also wrote the preface, has been a keen advocate of ω -3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFA) for many years. He has addressed the general public (in such books as: “The Omega Diet: The Lifesaving Nutritional Program Based on the Diet of the Island of Crete”, HarperCollins Publishers, 1975; and “The Aphrodite Diet”, Vermillion, 1999) as well as health and science professionals (in such books as “Obesity: New Directions in Assessment and Management”, Charles Press Publishers 1995 and many other publications). The book reviewed here is the latest installment in the ω -3 LCPUFA-focused series of the World Review of Nutrition and Dietetics (Karger, Switzerland) which Dr. Simopoulos has edited since 1991. The book is a collection of review articles written by the editors as well as by a panel leading researchers in the field. …
