A 72-year-old woman presented with a several-week history of stomach pain and gas on 2 December 2006, and was prescribed omeprazole 20mg twice daily. Two days later, on 4 December, she returned to her pharmacy with severe nausea, and it became obvious that she had taken not only the prescribed two omeprazole 20mg tablets a day, but also an additional omeprazole 20mg tablet every day, which had been prescribed for stomach pain on 18 November 2006. She stopped taking the additional dose of omeprazole and was feeling much better on 10 January; her gas and stomach pain had abated. …
