A recent article in
Infection offers expert guidance on effective strategies for antimicrobial stewardship directives [
1]. Procalcitonin (PCT) testing is gaining utilization as a tool for antimicrobial stewardship programs with an emphasis on its use in decreasing antibiotic exposure in lower respiratory tract infections and sepsis [
2]. Despite the growing popularity, guidance for optimal PCT implementation at the facility level is lacking. When implementing a new antimicrobial stewardship directive, both the German Society for Infectious Diseases and the Infectious Diseases Society of America note that implementation strategies should be specific to the needs of the facility and efforts should be taken to foster prescriber acceptance [
