The first edition of this text, published in 1973, completely altered the diagnosis and treatment of digestive disorders. During the last three decades, this text has become the “bible-of gastroenterology and the best-selling reference in this field. This current edition is no longer edited by Dr. Marvin Sleisenger, who has served as editor for the last seven editions. He still enjoys excellent health and is in practice utilizing his intellect and experience for the benefit of others. This text is used as the reference book in our department, but to our horror, ours was out of date. Since its first publication, the specialty has grown and this is reflected in the recent editions of the book being two volumes. In place of Dr. Marvin Sleisenger, who serves as a consulting editor for this edition, Dr. Lawrence Brandt has joined the editorial board together with Dr. Lawrence Feldman and Dr. Mark Friedman as principal editors. The authorship is comprised of more than 150 international expert contributors from 11 countries across 5 continents. …
