To the Editor—I am glad to have the opportunity to respond to the comments and questions raised by Drs.
Riegler and Cosentini on our recent study. I agree that our work supports the two previous randomized studies published on this topic. The type of handset used in this study was a mid-sized piece, designated LigaSure™ Max. I agree that the use of a scalpel for the first incision may well reduce the cost of the procedure further and certainly would be equally effective as cutting diathermy. I confirm that the grade of hemorrhoids (III or IV) had no effect on the feasibility of hemorrhoidectomy with LigaSure™. …
