I read with interest the article by Yassin et al. [
1], a study on lower limb ischemia reperfusion injury as a cause of a systemic inflammatory response, including multiple organ failure. Proinflammatory cytokines were measured in a rat model of bilateral hindlimb ischemia with or without reperfusion. Visceral organ function was monitored. Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) were high and abnormal, as were liver and kidney function parameters. Unfortunately most (45/48) of their references pertained to the last 14 years, with only 2 references before 1980; in fact, some previous studies were not discussed. …
