A 44-year-old man with alcohol dependence syndrome received topiramate 25 mg/day for 1 week, and then 50 mg/day [route not stated]. Two days after the dose increase, he reported itching all over his body. He stopped taking topiramate, and the itching improved in 3 days. He then re-started topiramate, and itching recurred 2 days later. No abnormalities were found, and drug-induced pruritus was suspected. Topiramate was withdrawn, and he received cetirizine at bedtime for a few days. He improved in 2 days, with no pruritus recurrence.Author Comment“The use of Naranjo Adverse drug probability scale revealed a score of 9 suggestive of definitive relationship between pruritus and topiramate.” …
