To the Editor: According to World Health Organisation, newborns should be exclusively breastfed upto six months of age [1]. However, traditional practices and beliefs such as prelacteal feeds, use of gripe water and native medications are deterrent to the practice of exclusive breastfeeding in neonates [2]. One such deep rooted traditional practice prevalent in South India is the use of Vasambu (Acorus calamus) for infants. …
