Zusammenfassung

Die Enzephalitis als potenziell lebensbedrohliche Erkrankung birgt selbst bei adäquater Therapie die Gefahr irreversibler Schädigungen des Hirnes. Häufig bleibt die Genese unklar. Autoimmune und paraneoplastisch vermittelte Enzephalitiden können erfolgreich therapiert werden, allerdings ist dazu eine hohe Expertise in der Diagnostik und Therapie erforderlich.
